"This vessel is one of a small limited edition that I made in May 2015 for the television show Rough Cut Woodworking with Tommy Mac series airing on PBS."
Artist Statement
"My work expresses a sense of time and mystery. My inspiration is derived from a fusion of styles including ancient Egyptian, African, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Asian. But essential to all my designs is the attention I dedicate to fine details. I like to combine exotic woods with gilding and chemical patination to create unique, one of a kind woodturnings and sculptures. The patina finish that is a trademark of my work is a hybrid I’ve developed since the late 1980’s. It combines painting, gilding (metal leafing), chemical patinas, and lacquering techniques. The complex layers result in a surface that imparts feelings of depth, ancient time, and a sense of mysterious beauty. I use the lathe in combination with my fully equipped woodworking studio to create my pieces. Some of the qualities that I strive for are excellence in design as well as excellence in execution of technique, while challenging myself to create something that generates a sense of fascination in the viewer."
About David Marks
David J. Marks is recognized internationally as a master craftsman of fine furniture, turner, sculptor, and host of the television show “WoodWorks”. David hosted 91 episodes of WoodWorks, which debuted on HGTV and the DIY Networks back in 2001. The show won critical acclaim and aired on the DIY network for 6 years. It was also syndicated in Australia, where it aired for several years.
In 1981, he opened his own shop/studio and built one-of-a-kind furniture. In the late 1980’s he shifted focus to woodturning and sculpture. David began experimenting in the late 1980s with gilding and patinas. His patina finish is a hybrid of multiple finishes that he has developed. It combines painting, gilding (metal leafing), chemical patinas, and lacquering techniques. The complex layers result in a finish that may look ancient, metallic, or even stone like of an ancient, petrified stone quality.
He has won numerous awards for his woodworking and woodturning, and his work has appeared in many publications.

All EOG auction items will be available for on-site viewing beginning Thursday, June 9 at 5:30PM Eastern at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart, 240 Peachtree St NW #2200, Atlanta, GA 30303. Remote bidding on-line is open. The live auction starts at 7:30PM Eastern time on Friday, June 10. Remote bidders will be able to bid live during the auction via a live audio feed. You must be pre-registered to bid online.

Shipping Details:
SHIPPING: After the purchase price has been paid in full and after the sale has been completed, property must be removed from the auction at the Buyer’s expense. The American Association of Woodturners will, as a service to Buyers, arrange to have the property packed, insured, and shipped via UPS at the request, expense and entire risk of the Buyer. Any claims will be between carrier and Buyer.

Bidders who bid from off-site and are not present at the live auction understand and acknowledge that they may not be able to inspect an item as well as if they examined it in person.
2. DISPUTES: The American Association of Woodturners shall designate the winning bidder after each item is auctioned. If a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the American Association of Woodturners reserves the right to reopen bidding. The American Association of Woodturner's designation of a buyer shall be final.
3. BIDDING & PRE-BIDDING: The American Association of Woodturners is providing internet and live bidding as a service to bidders. Bidders acknowledge and understand that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall a bidder have any claim against the American Association of Woodturners or anyone else if the internet service fails to operate correctly before or during the live auction.
4. The American Association of Woodturners has the right to accept or deny bidders from attending their auctions, both in person and online.
5. Online bidders agree and understand that they will not be invoiced and may not be able to pay until the entire, onsite auction is over. All purchases will be charged to your credit card immediately following the auction. Any other payment arrangement must be arranged and approved by the American Association of Woodturners a minimum of 48 hours prior to the auction.
6. The American Association of Woodturners makes no representations whatsoever that the Buyer of a work of art will acquire any reproductions rights thereto.
