Bee Tree Camphor
Camphor burl
14" x 10" x 3"

Created with salvaged wood from a local landmark tree.

Artist's Note

"The wood that was used for this piece came from a Camphor tree that was over a century old. It was locally known as the “bee tree". It survived a lighting strike that burned out a large cavity in its side. A colony of honey bees made their home in one of its two main branches, which were nearly four feet in diameter. The tree eventually became unsafe and needed to be removed; the bees were relocated, and over 500 pounds of honey were harvested. Local woodturners worked with the city to salvage the majority of this very unique tree."
