Oregon boasts of having the perfect climate for producing blackberries. With the rich volcanic soil, clean mountain air and Pacific Northwest rainfall, blackberry vines quickly overtake any patch of land that is out of the woods. Traditional forms of the blackberry were revisited when Oregon State University worked in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to breed the Marionberry. This berry, large and juicy with a uniquely tart yet sweet taste, is hailed as the most delicious in the world. It is only right that we have a blackberry on display for the 2018 AAW Symposium in Portland.

About the Artist:
Mark L Waninger From my childhood in rural southern Indiana to the launch of my own custom millworking business, I have always been fascinated with the warmth and beauty of wood. Woodworking is my passion, and woodturning allows me the freedom to express my own energetic and distinct style. My artistic flair, the skills acquired on the path to becoming a master millwright, my natural drive for perfection and an eye for complementary styles are some of the characteristics that contribute to the creation of my artwork. While my styles are opening new trails in some aspects, I invite others to share the journey through demonstrations or classes. I enjoy interacting with anyone who wants to further develop their own talents.
