Captured Vessel II, 2020

"Some years a go I watched a Korean potter throw a double-walled pot and then carve the outer layer to reveal the inner vessel. I found the idea fascinating and thought I should try it in wood. This piece is one in a series of Captured Vessels that I am developing."

Bruce Campbell has been turning wood since 1979. While being mostly self-taught, he has through his close association with the Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild, a chapter of the AAW, benefited greatly from seminars with more than 30 well-known turners from around the world, as well participation in a number of AAW Symposiums.

His primary interest is in merging local and exotic wood with other materials to create works that have a distinctive feel. These materials include aluminium, brass, copper, vegetable ivory, epoxy, soapstone, bone, antler and even Mastodon tusk.

In addition to unique combinations of materials, he does surface augmentation such as pyrography, carving, piercing, metal leafing and colouring.

Bruce lives, works, and teaches in Coquitlam, BC, Canada with his silversmith wife and two cats.
