Samenkapsel (Seedpod), 2022
Christine Wenzhöfer | Hünfelden, Hessen, Germany
Sequoia, acrylic paint
3.75 x 6 inches | 9.5 x 17.5 cm
The form is inspired by nature. The contents, the seeds, have already fallen on fertile soil. New trees grow from old tree’s fruits. The ideas we share with others are reflected in their developing minds and grow into new ideas.
Christine Wenzhöfer was born in Cologne in 1967, grew up there in a family of artists and has worked in agriculture since her apprenticeship. In 2005 she started turning and got to know many local woods. Since 2016, Christine has been enthusiastic about the wood of the sequoia, from which her latest objects are made.
She likes the broad annual rings of the sequoia, which she brings out by sandblasting. Her objects are created in combination with cutouts and sometimes bright colors.
Christine loves the colors and shapes of nature and is inspired by them, she doesn't want to copy them but rather create new beings. Although the acrylic paints cover the natural colors of the wood, the structure and the natural course of the annual rings remain visible through the sandblasting and give your objects a natural look.
