David Sengel | Boone, North Carolina
Spalted sugar maple, recycled metal
6 x 5 x 5 inches | 15.24 x 12.7 x 12.7 cm

After a trip to Thailand several decades ago, the prayer wheel concept stuck with me until I recently started making some large ones to put outside around the farm, with the idea being to observe their decay from the elements over the years. I am still struggling with letting some of them them go out, (too precious?) of which a true Buddhist would probably disapprove. Making objects that serve a purpose, move, or make noise is what I am attracted to these days.
The form/content speaks for itself here.

David Sengel's work can be found in a number of museums, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and Mint Museums.
