"This piece is inspired by the statues on Easter Island. As a mixed media artist, I decided to use four natural elements, comprised of two different species of wood, combined with two different man-made copper elements, to address the theme. Two woodworking, and two metal working techniques were utilized to fabricate the separate pieces, and the materials came from several different countries-all signifying a collaboration. The pieces are not attached to the tray, allowing the viewer to move them around the tray in relationship to each other...a dynamic interaction between the artist, the art, and the viewer.

I only use recycled materials in my work, so I had to design with those constraints in mind. The teapot is made of Purpleheart, which was salvaged from a shipping pallet from Brazil, and was turned and carved. The lid of the teapot is comprised of a section of coconut shell from the Dominican Republic, topped by a Blue Gum Eucalyptus seed pod from San Francisco, Ca. The spout and handle are Cupronickel heat exchange tubing, salvaged from a cooling unit, with flame patina. The tea cups are scrap plumbing tubing, fold-formed and a flame patina. The tea cup bases are turned from the same Purpleheart. The tray is Western Red Cedar scrap that is turned and carved."
