Enter Woven depicts the buried fibrous textures beneath the screen of a historical Italian velvet pattern. The windows of the geometric design expose the core material that drapes the voids within the pattern. The Museo del Tessuto in Prato, Italy, has supported the illustrated pattern work through access to its collection for the project.
Felicia Francine Dean is an artist, designer, and Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her educational background includes an MFA in Interior Architecture and a BA in Studio Art. Her creative practice investigates the spatial identity of materials and interior artifacts by researching layered connections between culture, the history of interiors, handcraft, digital fabrication, space, and place.

Dean's creative process is experimental. Her work develops through the lens of textiles while expanding the interrelationship of additional materials and making processes. Her works reference the medium of textiles, physically and abstractly, to uncover new material narratives. Dean's sculptural objects capture sensitivity and intentionality regarding their relationship to history, culture, craft, and identity. As a result, her exploration leads to a new knowledge matrix referencing subjugated and buried stories within interior artifacts.
