Georgianne has always been drawn to the beauty of geometric shapes, both those formed by nature and those created by the human hand. By incorporating geometric patterns into her work, she has found a way to combine her passion for both art and mathematics, creating the perfect vehicle to explore and express her creative ideas. She is particularly influenced by designs found on ancient bowls, cave walls, textiles, medieval manuscripts, and, most notably, maps. Georgianne never sketches out her ideas in advance; each design is “drawn” freehand, without measuring or the use of a straightedge or ruler. This “improvisational” technique allows the shape and grain of the wood to play a role in the finished product, making each piece a unique journey with no preconceived beginning or end.

In 2013, she began collaborating with her brother-in-law, professional woodturner Mike Jackofsky. Their collaborations have been included in numerous art exhibitions, auctions, museums, and publications around the world.

About Georgianne: Georgianne creates her art in a seaside community on the north shore of Long Island. When not "writing with fire," Georgianne may be found traveling around the country playing acoustic American roots music with her husband and daughter in their family band, The Homegrown String Band™.

About Mike: One of the things I have learned over the years from participating in the Emma Lake Collaboration and in other collaborative work I have done, is that “collaborating” involves giving up control over your work to some extent. To “collaborate” is to allow other artists to express themselves, and I am never quite sure where it will end up. My sister in law, Georgianne Jackofsky, has been drawing and painting her whole life and she also has a background in graphic design. She has adapted her style to woodburning, and when I gave her some of my hollow forms to burn, I don’t think either one of us knew how it would turn out. I think these collaboration pieces represent a balance between the beauty and form of the wood, and her “drawing” with the woodburner.
