Artist’s Note
“The definition of theme of this exhibition has inspired ‘Herringbone.’ 'Patterns'- a regular and intelligible form or sequence discernible in the way in which something happens or is done. There were many influents to inspiration, as Ireland is rich with patterns in the natural and built landscape--from Neolithic and Celtic monuments to Irish dry stone walls—but I was particularly looking at woven Irish tweed and knitted Aran sweaters.”
Artist Statement
“One of the key inspirations and fascinations are the extraordinary characteristics of wood. My work to-date is an exploration of form and texture. Having grown up and working in a rural landscape comprising of immense natural beauty along with many exceptional archaeological features dating from the 6th Century, has a strong influence on my work. My instinctive connection with the wood comes from having five generations of Master Craftsmen in my family which is balanced by knowledge of contemporary style. I explore the natural traditional character of Irish oak and elm and use it in a design-led manner. My work is still evolving from functional woodturning into an art form, with a high emphasis on quality of craftsmanship in each piece. Each piece has its own distinct character, determined by the combination of wood, texture, design and finish. Although each one is unique, they are linked by an exploration of the relationship between the materials and the form, and the relationship between the internal and the external space.
Being dyslexic has helped me to approach my work differently because when I work there is no such word as can’t: “I believe that anything is possible if you try, and one must try”
Biography
Emmet was born and raised in Castledermot, Co. Kildare. He comes from five generations of Master Craftsmen. Self-taught, Kane creates thin-walled hollow forms which defy the difficulties of the medium and whose use of colour, is more readily associated with ceramics or glass. Today, he works predominantly in native hardwoods, citing a particular fondness for Irish oak, which he textures and ebonises, gilds and colours. At times, his work looks like glass or plastic, even metal, until you draw near and see the texture or grain and wonder just how it was achieved. Kane has been invited to teach, lecture and demonstrate woodturning in Australia, Finland, England, France, Norway, Germany, and USA and throughout the Island of Ireland.

SHIPPING: After the purchase price has been paid in full and after the sale has been completed, property must be removed from the auction at the Buyer’s expense. The American Association of Woodturners will, as a service to Buyers, arrange to have the property packed, insured, and shipped via UPS at the request, expense and entire risk of the Buyer. Any claims will be between carrier and Buyer.

2. DISPUTES: The American Association of Woodturners shall designate the winning bidder after each item is auctioned. If a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the American Association of Woodturners reserves the right to reopen bidding. The American Association of Woodturner's designation of a buyer shall be final.
3. BIDDING & PRE-BIDDING: The American Association of Woodturners is providing internet and live bidding as a service to bidders. Bidders acknowledge and understand that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall a bidder have any claim against the American Association of Woodturners or anyone else if the internet service fails to operate correctly before or during the live auction.
4. The American Association of Woodturners has the right to accept or deny bidders from attending their auctions, both in person and online.
