Red Penciled Sapsuckers, 2020
Reclaimed wood (wenge, maple and mystery wood), colored pencils
2.75 x 6 x 4.75 inches | 6.985 x 15.24 x 12.065 cm

I started using colored pencils as a design element during a 2016 artists residency where I was to create a body of work using materials gleaned from our local dump over a six month period. My piece for this show returns to this, celebrating the element of air with simple bird figures.

Hilary Pfeifer's artwork explores the natural world through sculpture, collage and installation, often using reclaimed wood, laser cut metal and subtly camouflaged found objects. She graduated from Oregon College of Art and Craft in 1999. Her work has been featured in American Craft Magazine, and is in the collections of the State of Oregon, The Center for Art in Wood and the White House. In addition to her studio practice, Hilary has created many permanent public art works in the Pacific Northwest, and, most recently, the Boston Childrens Hospital.
