My artistic intent with this sphere is to capture a moment in time when the ebb and flow of Hawai'i’s ocean stops moving —click— like a photograph of the underwater world in our coral reefs. The surface design reflects my subconscious, with layers of connecting images that shape-shift from one form into another. This piece was inspired by childhood memories of the Christmas snow globes that we would shake and watch the magic.

About the Artist:
Award-winning artist John Mydock has been featured in several woodturning magazines. His work is showcased in the US Department of State's Art in Embassy Program in both Switzerland and Australia. His work has been collected by the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Honolulu Museum of Art, as well as numerous private and corporate collectors.
“Looking back at my body of work, I see three major influences. First, I have always enjoyed drawing and painting; I still carry a sketchbook to capture my thoughts and moments in time. Second, at the age of seven, I was introduced to the fine craft of boat building and furniture making by my godfather. His attention to detail has served as a beacon of inspiration to this day. Third, as a teenager I began painting and restoring motorcycles and old cars. This expanded into many years as a professional airbrush and pinstripe artist on custom motorcycles and antique cars.
The embellishing techniques I use are a reflection of a lifetime as an artist. I now draw with a pyrography pen; and the same finishing techniques that I previously used on boats, cars and motorcycles now appear on my vessels in the form of airbrushed transparent colors, pinstripes, and gilding."

All EOG auction items will be available for on-site viewing beginning Thursday, June 23 at 5:30PM CDT at the Kansas City Convention Center. Remote bidding on-line opens May 26, 2017. The live auction starts at 7:30PM (Central) on Friday, June 10. Remote bidders will be able to bid during the auction via a live audio and/or video feeds. You must be pre-registered to bid online.
Downtown Kansas City, Missouri tax rate of 10.475% will be applied to all purchases paid for and picked up at the Symposium site.

2. DISPUTES: The American Association of Woodturners shall designate the winning bidder after each item is auctioned. If a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the American Association of Woodturners reserves the right to reopen bidding. The American Association of Woodturner's designation of a buyer shall be final.
3. BIDDING & PRE-BIDDING: The American Association of Woodturners is providing internet and live bidding as a service to bidders. Bidders acknowledge and understand that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall a bidder have any claim against the American Association of Woodturners or anyone else if the internet service fails to operate correctly before or during the live auction.
4. The American Association of Woodturners has the right to accept or deny bidders from attending their auctions, both in person and online.
5. Online bidders agree and understand that they will not be invoiced and may not be able to pay until the entire, onsite auction is over. All purchases will be charged to your credit card immediately following the auction. Any other payment arrangement must be arranged and approved by the American Association of Woodturners a minimum of 48 hours prior to the auction.
6. The American Association of Woodturners makes no representations whatsoever that the Buyer of a work of art will acquire any reproductions rights thereto.
