This closed sphere holds a carved window, a fragment of architecture suspended in wood.
It evokes intimacy and distance — a threshold between what is revealed and what remains hidden. Combining stone, wood, and metal, the piece explores the relationship between enclosure and openness, material and story
Lorin Brückin is a French woodturner living near Carcassonne. Since discovering this way of creating and conveying stories, it immediately became clear to him that incorporating different materials into the wood would allow him to explore the narrative potential of such combinations — especially since he doesn’t like leaving the wood by itself.
Materials like copper, zinc, or stone — already part of his daily life as a plumber — gradually found their way into his work.
At first, his creations were everyday objects like boxes, trays, or candlesticks. But over time, they evolved into sculptural pieces, often spherical in shape, with natural or Nordic influences.
The addition of hammered metal increasingly became the guiding thread of his artistic explorations, always with the intention of creating the illusion that the metal lies hidden beneath the wood
