A serendipitous request for a cup to commemorate a son’s graduation inspired this piece, embodying the desire to capture fleeting moments. In response to the theme Holding Space, I explore the human impulse to freeze time and preserve experiences as they slip away, inviting viewers to savor each moment.
Crafted around a Möbius strip—a continuous, single-sided surface—this form symbolizes the flow of time. More than a functional object, this cup serves as a vessel for savoring time, inviting us to pause and remember precious intervals within life’s ongoing current.

Matt lives and works in Japan, where he does whatever he can to earn a living. Sometimes this includes lathe-based activities.
