“One of the things I have learned over the years from participating in the Emma Lake Collaboration and in other collaborative work I have done, is that “collaborating” involves giving up control over your work to some extent. To “collaborate” is to allow other artists to express themselves, and I am never quite sure where it will end up. My sister in law, Georgianne Jackofsky, has been drawing and painting her whole life and she also has a background in graphic design. She has adapted her style to woodburning, and when I gave her some of my hollow forms to burn, I don’t think either one of us knew how it would turn out”
About the Artists
Georgianne Jackofsky is a freelance illustrator from New York. She attended New York Institute of Technology, majoring in Art with a concentration in Advertising Design, and subsequently worked in the graphic art field for over 25 years. Georgianne's quest for artistic freedom would eventually lead her to become a freelance artist specializing in layout and design as well as pen and ink illustration. Her work has appeared in books, magazines, newspapers, media packaging, and a line of greeting cards.
For the past several years, Georgianne has been transferring her creative ideas and illustration techniques to the art of pyrography, burning designs on wood, and in 2013, she began collaborating with her brother-in-law, Mike Jackofsky, a professional woodturner known for his hollow vessels.
“My original major was math, so I've always been drawn to the beauty of geometric shapes. They have their own emotional force and, for me, became the perfect vehicle to explore and express my creative ideas. I'm particularly influenced by the designs on ancient bowls, cave walls, textiles, medieval manuscripts, and, most notably, maps.
I don't sketch my ideas out in advance, nor measure or use a straight edge or ruler, but freehand "draw" each design letting the shape and grain of each piece of wood influence the design. Often, when I start, I have no idea where I'll end up; each piece is a unique journey.”
When not traveling around the countryside performing with her acoustic American roots music band, the “Homegrown String Band”, Georgianne creates her art in the seaside community of Rocky Point, NY.
Mike Jackofsky specializes in hollow vessels, most of which are natural edge pieces made from unique burls, but he also turns bowls, including thin, natural edge open bowls, off balance asymmetrical pieces, hollow forms with “wings”, and sculptural forms.
Mike’s work is represented in many private collections around the world and is on display in the permanent collections of the Sam Maloof Historical Residence Museum in Alta Loma, CA, the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, CA, and the AAW collection in St Paul, Minnesota. He received “Best of Show” at the AAW sponsored California Contours show and he has won numerous awards at the San Diego International Design in Wood exhibition, including more than 10 first place awards. In 2008, he was the subject of a feature article in the January issue of Woodturning magazine, and in April of 2012, he was the author of a feature article in the AAW Journal titled "Working With Burl-Making Natural Edge Hollow Vessels."

All EOG auction items will be available for on-site viewing beginning Thursday, June 23 at 5:30PM CDT at the Kansas City Convention Center. Remote bidding on-line opens May 26, 2017. The live auction starts at 7:30PM (Central) on Friday, June 10. Remote bidders will be able to bid live during the auction via a live audio and/or video feeds. After the purchase price has been paid in full and after the sale has been completed, property must be removed from the auction at the Buyer’s expense. The American Association of Woodturners will, as a service to Buyers, arrange to have the property packed, insured, and shipped via UPS at the request, expense and entire risk of the Buyer. Any claims will be between carrier and Buyer.

2. DISPUTES: The American Association of Woodturners shall designate the winning bidder after each item is auctioned. If a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the American Association of Woodturners reserves the right to reopen bidding. The American Association of Woodturner's designation of a buyer shall be final.
3. BIDDING & PRE-BIDDING: The American Association of Woodturners is providing internet and live bidding as a service to bidders. Bidders acknowledge and understand that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall a bidder have any claim against the American Association of Woodturners or anyone else if the internet service fails to operate correctly before or during the live auction.
4. The American Association of Woodturners has the right to accept or deny bidders from attending their auctions, both in person and online.
5. Online bidders agree and understand that they will not be invoiced and may not be able to pay until the entire, onsite auction is over. All purchases will be charged to your credit card immediately following the auction. Any other payment arrangement must be arranged and approved by the American Association of Woodturners a minimum of 48 hours prior to the auction.
6. The American Association of Woodturners makes no representations whatsoever that the Buyer of a work of art will acquire any reproductions rights thereto.
