The seven stages of being invited to participate in your first exhibition:

1. Joy: "They like me, they really, really like me! So many great names next to mine!"
2. Fear: "So many great names next to mine!"
3. Resentment: "A sphere? They cant tell me what to do. Don't they know I'm an artist!"
4. Fear (Again): "Oh crap, I need to make a sphere to go next to all those other great spheres!"
5. Acceptance: "Ok, time to make a sphere."
6. Anticipation: "I hope they like my sphere!"
7. Hubris: "I don't care if they like my sphere, I'm an artist!"

I knew for this project I wanted to use a surface texturing technique that I have been playing around with. In order to create this texture, I use the radius from the top of a belt sander loop to create lots of little coves all over the surface. To further bring this texture out, I painted the coves various colors using milk paint and sanded back to reveal the high points of the wood underneath.

I find myself drawn to the primary colors used in this piece. There is just something simple and soothing about that color palette. Furthermore, Piet Mondrian, who utilized a similar color palette, is one of my favorite artists. I landed on making a globe using this technique because I thought a bowling ball would have been boring.
