About Holland Van Gores

"In 2013 after spending 34 years in the United States Virgin Islands my wife Mickie and I moved to Western North Carolina with our twin daughters. We have found our place here amongst the trees and wildlife. I have worked with wood for the past 40 years, so taking up woodturning 13 years ago was an excellent fit. I recently built my studio next to our home and spend as much time turning as I can. I find myself experimenting with different woods, shapes and textures, and thoroughly love the process.

My work can be found in private collections, and has been featured in publications, including American Woodturner. In 2014, I was awarded a Regional Artists Project Grant which I used to attend Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. There I was fortunate enough to have the influence, guidance and friendship of Graeme Priddle and Melissa Engler who have helped me evolve and expand to a new level. Last year I decided to take the advice of Clay Foster: "Turn until you’re unemployable." I think I'm there and am enjoying every minute of it."

Holland Van Gores work may be found in galleries in western North Carolina and the Virgin Islands.
