My exploration of the versatility and elegance of bamboo has been central in my mosaic work for over ten years. It’s only recently that I began to use the beautiful designs that appear after cutting through the node sections at various angles. I sand and smooth these segments to create 'blocks' with which to stamp these designs onto plywood tiles. The “rune” segments, and the imprints they create, have an exciting modern quality. This box is a 3-D offshoot of my Runes series of mosaics, which consist of tooled bamboo and wood, and saw-textured plywood.

About Norine Kevolic:
Norine was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1952, and has long resided in New Hope, PA. Nature and spirituality inspire her work in wood and bamboo, painting, and silverpoint, which is a drawing made with a metal stylus on a prepared surface. In the more than 30 years that she has exhibited throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and in online exhibitions, she has consistently received critical recognition and numerous awards for her work. Some of these venues include the annual Works in Wood and Sculpture shows at New Hope Arts, and American Bamboo Society competitions online.
