Cypress wood, cast glass, plastic | 5.5 x 5.75 x 5.75 in/14 x 15 x 15 cm

"Off the Lathe and Into the Kiln" combines traditional techniques of woodturning with glass kiln casting practices. Two cypress bowls were turned, one nested inside the other; the larger of the two was then encased in a mold and placed in the kiln. The wooden bowl was burned out while glass filled the empty cavity, creating unexpected organic surface textures. "Off the Lathe and Into the Kiln" animates the process of arranging dynamic forms by capturing the motion and essence of material exploration.
