Artist Statement
I’m a full time woodturner from Germany and I love to do this kind of work. It is a challenge to start a piece like this, but when I finish it I have such a good feeling that it makes the day. Otherwise I’m useless.”

About Hans Weissflog
Hans Weissflog studied mechanical engineering and design. He started working in his Hildesheim studio in 1982, and in 1994, received the highest honor for a German craft artist, The Lower Saxony State Award. The jury which selected Weissflog made the following comment about the power of his work: "With his work, the creating of vessels, boxes and free objects, he belongs to the undisputed magicians of the art of wringing every form from a piece of wood, above all physical and technical boundaries."

Says Weissflog, “I have always tried to develop my style without changing it too much. It takes me a lot of time to finish my pieces. Time is a very important factor: if I start to hurry and become nervous, the piece will break. I hope to produce more satisfying pieces in my life.”
