Curt Theobald

"Pittsburgh is known as the steel capital of the nation. At the peak of the steel industry Pittsburgh produced half of our country’s steel. When thinking about the amount of steel made in Pittsburgh, I envisioned the steel coming out of the city flowing like “Rivers of Steel”. The use of steel in construction of bridges and buildings forever changed the building industry. Just like many modern structures that have a steel skeleton beneath their exterior, I envisioned this piece having the same steel structure hidden within the beauty of the wood."

Curt Theobald, an artist based in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, has been a full-time studio woodturner since 2002. His segmented works have been exhibited in numerous museum and gallery events nationwide including the Riley Galleries, AAW Gallery of Wood Art, Collectors of Wood Art and SOFA Chicago and New York. His background as a cabinetmaker and his knowledge of wood movement and precise joinery are apparent in his work. He has demonstrated segmented turning both nationally and internationally. His work resides in public and private collections worldwide including the Honolulu Museum of Art, and Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
