Hackberry | 5 x 2 x in/13 x 5 x 0 cm

"This shell starts by the turning of a wooden bowl in hackberry, with a very classical shape but turned very fine. It is then cut, steam bent, carved and sandblasted. Hackberry is the best wood for this work because its transparency and texture, enhanced by sandblasting, reminds the aspect of the sea shells."

About the Artist:
I love turning green wood. The beautifull species from the South of France allow me to turn it and carve as fine as I want, like a lace work, searching for the transformation of the wood when it dries. I want the extreme thinness, reaching transparency, as if it was paper or lace. These pieces give me the elegance and poetry that I need. I was born in 1963 in a small village of the south of France. After studies of cook, I used to work several years in restaurants. Using wooden dishes brought me to learn woodturning with Alain Mailland and Jean-François Escoulen. Since ten years I make my living with pieces inspired by sea shells, along with wooden dishes that I love to turn as fine as possible.
