This third "cropped cube" more subtly explores our perceptions of explicit and implicit boundaries by replacing one of the perimeter surfaces with a visual alignment of the wall with the top of the brass cone. Under particular light, the red-painted rear of the sphere creates an orange glow deep within the cavity. Having the sphere apparently floating is central to my interpretation of "The Space Between." I want the viewer to sense that golden lit space as a physical part of the composition.

"Reminds me of a stupa."
"The heavy looking sphere floating on the sea below."

Steve Loar lives and works in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
"Probably the turner to most likely intellectualize his work is Steve Loar. Under his intellectual umbrella, Steve's technique is impeccable, as a detailed-look reveals."
"Loar's sculptures have the immediacy of a sketch, unlike many carvings that are ponderous or even visually dead. The aesthetic of Loar's work is like a sketch that brings the beholder closer to the experience felt by the artist. The sense of connection gives the work a spirited view of the contemporary world. Loar's work shows the psychological activity of an emotional life highly charged and engaged."
"Steve Loar takes greater risks and pushes toward a broader interpretation. His bowls suggest a contemporary counter-point to centerpieces that were once raised in celebration of Neptune by mermaids or dolphins."
