Artist’s note: The meaning of the word ceremony is: "a formal religious or public occasion, typically one celebrating a particular event or anniversary."And so this for me represents a ceremony celebrating the fragility of life : The egg is breaking open, and life is inside which has the potential for more life within. As in the gold egg in the inner compartment."

About the artist: Steven Kennard is a woodturner and sculptor living and working in Nova Scotia, Canada. From exotic and indigenous woods he creates turned, carved and textured pieces as sculptural boxes in one of a kind and limited edition work. Wood turning is more often than not just where the process begins.
