Douglas Fir | 4.63 x 5.75 x 4.25 in/12 x 15 x 11 cm

“Treasure In The Ruins” pays homage to the devastation of the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area. Even the charred remains of a tree encase a treasure untouched by the flames. In exposing beauty from within a severely burned Douglas Fir tree, I honor the resilience of nature and I mourn the historic forests lost to the fury of fire. Yet I am filled with wonder and awe in anticipation of regrowth, as the beauty of Mother Nature will rise again from the blackened remains.

About the Artist:
"Wood has always been part of my life. I was raised in a logging community in SW Oregon, learning about wood and the forest around me as I grew up. In the early 80’s I milled the timbers for the construction of our house from trees that grew where I built the house, NW of Portland, OR.
In 2011 I began woodturning, deriving much satisfaction from making simple, elegant forms.
My association with artists over 40 years, first as a photographer for 25 years, and later as a craftsman, instilled an ardent respect for form and quality that I continually strive to achieve with my work.
Over the last few years my turned pieces have evolved into a pallet for embellishment that often reflects my environmental experiences and love of nature. The evolution of each piece, as it begins to symbolize my conceptual image, is always captivating."
