Winged Vessel Duo is my take on combining two traditional forms: the natural edge bowl and the thin-walled hollow vessel. The profiles of a branch and a piece of firewood determined the shape of each vessel’s wing. The madrone and Pacific yew are from Stuart Island, WA, and the black locust is from Whidbey Island, WA. Nesting each vessel in a concavity allows them to be configured in numerous orientations.

About the Artist:
I am an avid woodworker, potter, and visual artist, born and raised in Seattle, WA. I design wooden bowls and vessels that highlight the unique features of a given piece of wood: the knots, cracks, figure, and natural edge characteristics. The wood I use is sourced from fallen trees in the Pacific Northwest. Two artists that I have studied with are the adept Seattle turner Diana Friend and master turner David Ellsworth.

In June of 2018, I will be graduating from Carleton College in Minnesota with a BA in Studio Art. Spending time in the San Juan Islands proved a formative part of my upbringing; it made me resourceful and independent, and instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature and a love of the outdoors. Growing up in an artistic household and attending schools that emphasized the importance of art cultivated my interest in photography and woodturning. Through my Studio Art education, I have practiced furniture building, ceramics, filmmaking, drawing, and printmaking.
I plan to pursue a career as an artist, possibly combining teaching with a studio practice.

Through a career in the arts, I hope to share my passion for craftsmanship and inspire creativity in others.
